During the Witch Trials in Salem and in McCarthy Trials there was a lot of Abuse of Power happening in and out of the court. If you had a lot of power in the court you could control what other people believed and convince other people who were witches and who wasn't because words were used as evidence. Many people used their position in the community as a way to gain power because they started blaming others of witchcraft who were completely innocent. Abuse of power was very high in Salem, for example, if you were seen as being innocent like Abigail Williams then you weren't seen as a suspect during the trials. “ Let either of you breathe a word, of the edge of a word, about the other things, and i will come to you in the black of some terrible night and i will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you” (Miller). This shows how much power Abigail has over the girls and proves that they won't say anything true during the trials because they are scared of Abigail Williams. Mary Warren is another person who abuses her power because she is now apart of the courts so she has some power of the court. She comes with Proctor to confess she gave the poppet to his wife so she will be proven innocent but then she backstabs Proctor because she says she was forced to come because she's scared of …show more content…
