The people of Salem deceive others due to fear, power, and moral weakness. The first time someone deceives others is Betty Parris when she’s lying in her bed sick. When Abigail Williams tries to convince Betty to wake up she said “I told him everything; he knows now, he knows everything we-“ to which Betty replies with “You drank blood, Abby!
