Motion of Emotions Sometimes emotions are like an unsolved puzzle, you truly never know what you are feeling. So you try fitting the pieces that fit together but, after all that hard work you realize the puzzle never came out like the picture on the box. This happens to the character Othello in “Othello” by William Shakespeare. Information that he has not confirmed with his wife, Desmodona, makes him feel angry emotions. The strength of those emotions is similar to the same power of hatred. In this case, hate is stronger than love due to the fact it is the action that is performed more powerfully. For instance Iago, who is Othello's low ranking officer, wants more of a higher rank position. Specifically, he wants to become a lieutenant which is Cassio’s job. It is iago’s mission to get rid of anybody who is in the way of him getting a promotion. As a result, Iago sets up Cassio to get drunk and start a commotion while on the job which gets him fired, leading Iago the promotion he was looking for. Consequently, Iago’s plan was triggered by a strong dislike which is called hatred of his job and pain. Deep down Iago wants to hurt Othello because he believes he had an affair with his wife Emilia and that he slept with her. Resulting to making him want to move his promotion even higher in rank to take over Othello’s job. For this reason, Iago tells Othello that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair. Iago’s motivation was based off of rage that he felt in his soul which inspired him to make other people’s life miserable just like his. Hate is so strong that it is contagious because now Othello is filled with anger that it turns him into a beast. He is acting way out of character. In the beginning of the book the reader envisions Othello being a true, loving, and caring husband, but his personality suddenly takes a turn all due to one feeling; hate. However, love is an emotion that comes naturally to you when you connect with the right person. Where on the other hand, hate takes up more energy than love because hate takes over you mentality to do bad to another person just to make yourself feel better, where in love you don’t have to do things to feel loved if the connection is already there. You have to work to hate, like thinking about everything the person you hate has done to you and think about ways to get even with them, the list goes on and on based on how much hatred you have towards a person. Love is just a magical natural automatic connection you have, it can be you loving your parents. But it takes more to think about negativity than positivity which makes hate stronger than
