Theme Of Forgiveness In The Crucible

Between the roles of the characters in the Scarlet Letter vs The crucible, they each demonstrate a big trait of forgiveness and betrayal. The main themes of each story are portrayed by the minds and actions of each individual character. Within the The Scarlet Letter, Hester and Reverend Dimmesdale portray their actions and want of forgiveness with god from the beginning to the end of the story. In the Crucible, John Proctor and Abigail Williams ask for the forgiveness. Forgiveness is used to help the main theme of each story through the use of god and sins.
First, in the story of Scarlet Letter, Hester is confounded with the sin of Adultery. She had to be taken to the Scaffold and stay there for 3 hours. Hester basically asking for forgiveness, by staying within the town and showing her scarlet letter on her at all times. She portrays the theme of the story of “Forgiveness” in this story by using her daughter Pearl as a way to unsin herself with god. From the beginning to the end of the story, he feels guilt. However, in the end of the story it finally shows that the guilt goes after all he only has his “name” left. It is believed that John Proctor finally found his “way” at the end of the story as said by his wife. John Proctor shows various times that forgiveness would end the salem witch trials but, they did not end in the end. John Proctor’s traits of his character demonstrates the theme as forgiveness is the aspect of god of the holy bible. John Proctor shows his way through the demonstration of the hanging and repeating the last words of the bible. Also, his wife needed forgiveness from John. She believed in John and about the affair when talking about Dansforth but, in the end because of that she basically demised the hanging of each
