Greed is an intense and selfish desire for something like wealth, or power. The natural man cannot be controlled by love or kindness, but can be lured and pulled into utter darkness. Greed is a simile to want, but what you want and what you need are two different subjects in life’s everyday teachings. In both the play, and movie the main character Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol is overcome with the greed, mainly caused by wealth and money. There are many similarities and differences on Scrooge’s journey through his past, present, and future, between the play and the 1984 movie in A Christmas Carol. Christmas Past ( the second ghost’s name ) takes him to his see (his co worker) the Cratchit family as they feast on Christmas Eve dinner. Bob Cratchit proposes a toast to Scrooge for the job and little money they had received that year, but instead of agreeing the children and wife force themselves to drink for the sake of their own family not for Scrooge. Finally, Scrooge meets the ghost of Christmas yet to come, where so many people take advantage of Ebenezer’s death. For example Mrs. Diber attempts to take Scrooge’s blankets off of him, and sell them for a couple of shillings. On the other hand Future takes Scrooge to a graveyard where he shows Ebenezer his gravestone. Scrooge cries out to him for forgiveness because Scrooge was afraid of dying alone.
