Complications Of Love “Could ever hear by tale or history/The course of true love never did run smooth/But either it was different in blood”(I i, 135-137). This quote was written by William Shakespeare in his play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Love is a recurring theme and is presented throughout his play. The theme of love is compared to a river because it is known to be random and bumpy.
Love is also compared to a kid for people who are in love can cheat and trick each other like children in a game. Cupid, who is depicted in the play, is known as someone who is blind and reckless. Many people believe that love is random and can happen without reason. Love is a complex force that drives people to lose their sense of judgement and ability to reason. The path of love is not as smooth as some people would hope it is. But the real path to true love is filled with many obstacles. Like a roller coaster, love has many ups and downs. For example Hermia and Lysander, two lovers who are forbidden to marry, must face the obstacle known Egeus, Hermia’s father. Egeus doesn’t want Hermia to marry

Though he seems to be able to tell who should be in be paired with who, during this play Cupid is known to be blind. “Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind/And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind”(I i 240-241). This quote was said by Helena during her soliloquy, she explains how love is random and can change the views that one person. Helena believes that Cupid does not have good judgement and he “shoots his arrows” at random. Helena also believes that when someone is in love, reality is altered as well as their judgement, for example they may see someone as nice even if they aren’t. Love can happen at random times, sometimes without notice. Although it can happen in different ways, love that gets created can blossom into a strong
