Throughout The Odyssey, the Greek hero, Odysseus, shows restraint which, I think, is the most important trait of a hero. Odysseus portrays the trait of restraint in the following ways; During the cyclopes episode, Odysseus must restrain himself from stabbing Polyphemus in the liver from all the anger Polyphemus has caused Odysseus. In the sirens episode, Odysseus must keep himself from wanting to go with or to the sirens, which he prevents by having his crew tie him to the ship and having the crew put wax in their ears. In the cattle episode, Odysseus must restrain himself, and his crew, from wanting to eat Helios’s cattle.
