Honor is something that is very important for the Romans. People such as Brutus from Julius Caesar are willing to sacrifice his honor if the people “choose Caesar for their king” (Shakespeare 1. 2. 81-82). Brutus along with the senators are willing to sacrifice their honor to save Rome and even go to war. Caesar’s increase in power causes senators to despise him. The senator's view Caesar as a threat because having Caesar as a King would mean that their power would vanquish; therefore, assassinating Caesar is mandatory. The play shows that someone will always try to stop someone from being too powerful. It also shows that sacrifice is invaluable because in the end, Brutus’ efforts is not significant. Caesar fought in multiple battles risking his life in order to receive fame and glory. His reputation for constantly sacrificing his life for Rome was one of the reasons why he was loved by the people. Caesar also knew that he was being a threat for assassination with the constant alerts by the people that he was a target. Caesar ignored the warnings and proceeded to continue what he was doing. Another reason why Caesar was assassinated was because of his pride. Caesar believed that he was as “constant as the Northern Star, / Of whose true fixed and resting quality / There is no fellow in the firmament.” (Shakespeare 3. 1. 64-68).
