Throughout the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, imagery, tone, and theme play a huge role in the overall meaning of the text and on the reader. Not only does imagery help us get a better picture of what is going on, it also puts us into the world that we’re reading about. Tone helps us understand and shape our own attitude towards the novel. We are able to put ourselves in their shoes. Lastly, theme grants us the opportunity to understand the author’s overall message, and the meaning behind the story.

While reading a novel, you can usually imagine what’s going on in your head. That’s supposed to happen. The imagery used in Frankenstein is intensively detailed, as used in the following quote. “A cold dew covered my forehead, my teeth chattered,
