Reflection Paper #1

Introduction: Within this paper I will be reflecting over the first part of Theology 104. This class has addressed many topics that have given me a better understanding on Christianity, the Bible and most importantly Jesus Christ. I will be addressing two topics that I feel are very important to Christianity the first topic being the Importance of Personal Testimony and the second topic covering the Importance of Maintaining a Christian Lifestyle. Both of those topics I think help lay a foundation for an individual’s walk with Christ.

We have a very important obligation as Christians to also maintain a Christian lifestyle. We represent our Lord and savior in every decision we make and action we take. We may not always realize how influential our lifestyles are as Christians, but they are. I have heard many non-believers use the excuse when invited to church” That only hypocrites go to church” because of someone they knew who claimed to be a Christian but did not live a Christian lifestyle. It is stated in the Bible in James 2:24 (NIV) “You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone”. It is also stated in James 1:22(NIV) “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” I think both of those verses clearly show us the importance of maintaining a lifestyle acceptable to God. Jesus Christ gave the ultimate sacrifice for us, his life. It is only reasonable to live for him. Our example as Christians can either have a positive or negative effect on others perception of Christianity. We never know who is watching us and learning from us. I am far from perfect but I try to show as much compassion and love for others as I can. Chapter 6 from our textbook Core Christianity describes different facts about Christianity and how we are to incorporate Christianity into our daily lives because we are also living in the earthly world.
