“Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll working for one.” This is a quote from Theodore H Maiman, the creator of the first laser, the term laser mean “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation”. His invention led to the subsequent development many other types of laser. Even though he is a legend who created laser, a most useful tool for today world, but he has been live a normal life once. He also been through so many things before success on his idea. Maiman was an American engineer and physicist who invented the first laser in May 16, 1960. He was born on July 11, 1927 in Los Angeles California. Then his family moved to Denver, Colorado. Back when he was little, Maiman usually help his dad with experimentation in a home electronics laboratory. When he was a teen, Maiman make money himself by repair electrical appliances and radios. At age 17, he was employed a junior engineer with the …show more content…
After successful convince the company, he got a total budget of $50,000 for his development of laser based on his design that other scientists think would not work, a laser with synthetic ruby crystal. Mankind’s first coherent light was emitted by Maiman’s solid-state pink ruby laser. From this point, Maiman start to begin his conceptualizing solid laser design. He then start his maser project at Hughes. At this time, many other big research groups are investigating many developing laser project. When Maiman first public his development, he get a lot of bad feedback. Many other scientists point out many gaps in his laser. Other scientists are trying to developing the laser based on Maiman’s invention. They even got bigger awards than him, which isn’t really fair. Even though, Maiman still gained the world recognition with award such as the Wolf Prize, the Japan Prize and induction into the Inventors Hall of Fame. He also had been nominated for Nobel Award
