The theory of the American dream all started in 1931. It was the idea that everyone should have the opportunity for success. Throughout the years of America, Americans belief that accomplishing the American dream has become extinct. Even though many people think the American Dream is dead, the American Dream is still achievable through the beliefs and determination of individuals and the help that America has given. Truslow Adams brought the theory of “American dream” to people’s ears in the year 1931. Truslow Adams was an American writer and historian. He wrote the famous book Epic of America, which was about the American dream and what it exactly meant to our nation. It sets ideals which freedom gives opportunity for accomplishment, and a social mobility that is achieved through hard work and a few challenges. Moreover the ideas of the American dream “come from the roots of the declaration of independence”(American Dream), which states, “all men are created equal” and “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”(what is the American dream). It is to be a “promise of society that gives all citizens the life and liberty we need to peruse happiness.”(American Dream Project). However, to some people the American dream has change over the course of history. They believe that the theory of the American dream, which is that one can still have a happy, successful life, is now dead. Yet it must “say something good about the U.S that millions of people from the world still want to come to America”(Mitchell). In fact there is every reason to believe that the American dream is achievable and will remain strong. For many years American has brought many ideas that believe will make the nation a better world. These things actually benefit the accomplishing of the American dream. America brought “financial security, home ownership, and retirement” (American dream project). To take a case in point, America has provided a retirement system. It is the “retirement income security act of 1974”(a timeline of evolution). It’s a way that America gives back to all the hard working citizens. In addition, America also has supplied people with the help of afterschool programs. These afterschool programs are a way that America helps those that will one day want to dream of the American dream. “Since 2009, over 1,500 middle and high school students have completed an after school program”(Holden). The idea of these after school programs is so that students “ increase self confidence in the ability to succeed”(Holden). They also “contribute to the societal goal of increasing workforce diversity”(Holden). Along the same lines, America is also giving a second chance to those who are or have had trouble with the law. Many Americans who have criminal records or have been in jail have a very hard time to get back on track.
