A certain individual earns his well known reputation by undergoing challenges and facing fears to prove his courage. This is determined and justified in the article, “Theseus and the Minotaur” written by Creighton. In this plot, the hero is a son of a king, and he is sent on a mission supposedly no one else would tackle. Theseus starts his quest in the birth and origin phase. Throughout, he completes his tests phase. Finally finishing his adventure with the final battle. These stages have portrayed how they have shaped him to be worthy of a hero. Through his path of a heroic journey, he has shown that he does not lack much in order to obtain his honorable name as a hero. Accordingly to this myth, Theseus is born in a respected family and Theseus does not quite know what lies ahead of him or the secrets he yet has to venture. Aegeus, the king of Athens, got married to to the daughter of the king of Troezen. He told to his wife, that when she is to bear him a son, to let him come to Athens when he is old enough and with that he showed her a stone and said; ‘“When he is strong enough to lift it, he will be old enough to come to Athens. Tell him that he is the son of Aegeus, and let him wear this sword and sandal which I now place beneath the stone”’ (81 Creighton).
