The topic I am doing my final project on is Nike and the company’s social responsibility, its expectations, its actions, and everything in between. I chose to do my project on this topic because I do not believe it is fair for people who live in 3rd world countries to be getting paid next to nothing when they work for such profitable organizations. In 1997, people who worked for Nike in China were getting paid $1.75 per hour. It is just not morally right for a company like Nike, who at the end of the 2010 business year was worth $19.2 billion, to pay its workers next to nothing and have them work in awful working conditions. Don’t get me wrong, it is not just Nike, many big name brands follow in their example. All I want to know is why do people get to sit around and watch money roll into their laps while people work 13 hours a day for a couple of dollars? I believe everyone in this world should have the opportunity to succeed financially if they work hard for it. The people who work in 3rd world countries for big corporation’s work harder than a lot of people in the world, and they get paid less than Americans who aren’t looking for a job, but collect welfare and unemployment checks.
