After reading articles of social contract theories of Hobbes and Locke, I disagree with Locke’s assertion that “In the state of nature men mostly kept their promises and honored their obligations, and, though insecure, it was mostly peaceful, good, and pleasant”. Human nature pre- inspired egocentric and corruption. Human being is most likely to do thing that is in his interest. It is very rare for human being to do thing out of altruistic, therefore promises have no substance in the state of nature. On the other hand Hobbes summed it well when he describes the state of nature as “it is society which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short”.
