Thomas Hobbes was a man of many thing during his lifetime. Being an exile in france, and tutor to the Prince of Wales Charles II, but he was mostly known for being a philosopher. He had two main theories that, even today are discussed. Thomas Hobbes based his beliefs around two main theories, the first that the natural world is a terrible place to live, and the second that the government in any forms should not be questioned unless a under certain circumstances.
Hobbes had an interesting life that lead him down the road of being the famous philosopher that he was. The core of his beliefs were centered around when his father got into a fight and then “ Elder Thomas Hobbes was forced to flee to London, England, leaving his wife, two boys and a girl behind.” (Thomas Hobbes Biography, ). From then on he was very non-violent. Without a father to support him, his rich uncle made the decision to support his education “ From 1603 to 1608 he studied at Magdalen College, Oxford” (Thomas Hobbes Biography). With his education he went on to write many different piece, and impact debates even till today.

Hobbes stated that life in the natural world without any restrictions would be “solitary, poor, nasty, and short”( Contractarianism: Crash Course Philosophy #37). He believed that government will always be needed, because people will only have their own interest at hand. In the natural world everyone is equal and have the right to everything the next person has, however“The right of each to all things invites serious conflict, especially if there is competition for resources” (Hobbes's Moral and Political Philosophy). So to avoid this people naturally go to Contractarianism. What happens with Contractarianism is an agreement is made that the people will give up some freedoms , like killing without punishment, in return gain security.
