HOW THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE COME TO BE The Declaration was an idea thought by Richard Henry Lee. He discussed the idea with Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman and Roger Livingston.
In the declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote key points, such as popular sovereignty, equality of persons, natural rights, governments could be replaced, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it. The declaration was written to get independence from Britain. They were tired of King George the III.
