On May of 1776 at the Virginia Convention the Founding Fathers passed a resolution that asked for the thirteen colonies to be independent and free states. At the second continental congress on June 11, 1776 a group of men that was led by Thomas Jefferson were assigned to write the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson uses the document structure, diction, and patriotism to have the most impact on reader.
In the first paragraph, the Declaration of Independence states the necessity of the colonist to overthrow the British Crown and become “thirteen united states”. (Jefferson Para.1) In second paragraph Thomas Jefferson mentions that the Creator has given the people certain “unalienable Rights” which are “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. When government officials fail to protect these rights, it is the duty of the people to get rid of such government. The British Crown according to the list of grievances that fallow have brought nothing but “injuries and usurpations”. Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence in this manner to set a foundation and to build in that foundation. Meaning that he starts by telling the reader what the document is going to be about. After he has stated the purpose of the document he then moves on to tell reader why the colonies have the right to declare independence. To prove his reasoning, he follows up by giving the reader a list of grievances. Towards the end of document Thomas Jefferson states that the colonies are now free states, and to fish this declaration the Founding Father sing the document. Which gives more power to what Jefferson has built, by using that power of unity that wouldn’t be there if this where the thoughts of just one
