Throughout American history, America has been expanding into an enormous country. Without the help of these two men President, Thomas Jefferson and James K Polk, the United States would not have strengthened or expanded. Both of these presidents followed an expansionist foreign policy. Even though these two presidents were from two different decades and parties, Jefferson and Polk both agreed that the nation should be viewed as a superpower by expanding the country. Thomas Jefferson's foreign policies showed his policy of expanding the country and having more land for agriculture through the Louisiana Purchase. These policies had a large contribution to the United States on the domestic state by expanding the country. The Louisiana Purchase of Eighteen hundred and three and the land acknowledged by the Treaty of Guadalupe consisted of about twenty-three percent and fourteen percent of the of the United States. The Manifest Destiny had opened up a colossal land to have Americans fulfill their opportunities. These lands had provided the expansion of every kind and it led the United States to have a massive population, extra land for farming, land to develop railroads and businesses. This oversized land caught the attention of many immigrants who were the many executives of countless businesses. Americans at the time were grateful for having the Louisiana Purchase ,but they worried that Spain would close New Orleans. However, the Louisiana Purchase invigorated the ranking of the port. These policies may not have worked in the beginning, but the nation strengthened over time. Without the United States annexing Texas, then the United States economy wouldn’t be receiving Texas Gross State Product which is about one thousand six hundred forty billion dollars.Without the Louisiana Purchase, the United States wouldn’t have expanded and would be a small nation. Without the Louisiana Purchase, the United States wouldn’t have the successful port like New Orleans and let it help the economy grow. Without these lands, the United States wouldn’t grow domestically and have advanced technologies, and having a greater population. The expansions helped the United States become who they are and provided opportunities to Americans and immigrants. Without the help of Jefferson and Polk expansionist policies, the nation wouldn’t be where it is right
