Thomas Jefferson Thomas Jefferson was a highly well-educated man that attended William and Mary College where he practiced law. Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743. He served in the Virginia legislative as U.S. minster to France for several years, and he was the founder of the University of Virginia. Jefferson was mostly known for being the author of The Declaration of Independence, the third president of the United States, and he believed in freedom and equality. When I was younger, I only thought of Independence Day as the fourth of July where families would get together and have cookouts and watch the fireworks. I was totally wrong! Fourth of July give us the opportunity to reflect back on Jefferson. He was the author of one of the most important document in American history which was known as the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration was signed on July 4th 1776. This document is very important because as of today we use it to study the history of the United States, and we also used it to research the law. The ideal of equality has most certainly increased in the American history. The Declaration of Independence most famous sentence reads “we hold these truths to be self- evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” The Declaration gave all men and women not only the right to life but also the liberty and pursuit of happiness and declared that we as Americans are created equal, meaning everyone were created by the (God).
