While Grant was awaiting the news of Jefferson’s execution, one rhetorical strategy was heavily prevalent. Which was that Grant would constantly question himself, and the decisions that he had previously made. He questioned himself of whether or not he had made Jefferson doubt or even not believe in heaven and God. Everything that he had embodied in himself over the course of those few months came spewing out all at once. He was regretting any of the terrible decisions that he had made, and apologizing for what he had said to Jefferson. Grant surely learned a lesson; which was to not look down upon and disrespect his elders. Once he looked back at all the things he had said and done, he realized that in certain situations, you need to do what
