The Declaration of Independence was issued on the fourth day in July in the year of 1776. The Declaration summarized the 13 American colonies motives for gaining independence from Great Britain. The Declaration was composed by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Robert R. Livingston. The Declaration was written in the residence of Mr. Jacob Graff, a brick mason. The residency was located on the Southwest corner of Market and Seventh Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Thomas Jefferson rented out the entire second floor of the three story residency for himself and his household staff to draft the document. The document also explained the reasons that America was freeing ourselves from Great Britain and our goals that motivated us to do so. The document also stressed the importance of human rights and human equality. The document states more than once that “all men are created equal”. The document stated that the colonies wanted to form a democracy and have their own government that was made and amended as they pleased. The colonies were tired of being told what to do and when to do it. They felt that the should have justice and rights. The colonies believed that all men are born with inalienable rights such as the right to overthrow foreign rule. The colonies and settlers wanted to move away from the king and become an independent nation and they made it very clear that no one was going to stand in their way. Without the document, so many things about “the American dream”, would be different. I don’t necessarily know if we would still be under the reign of Britain, but we would probably still be feeling the impacts of their abilities.
