Thomas Jefferson's Declaration Of Sentiments

Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in order to proclaim the colonies freedom from Great Britain and to announce that all men are created equal. Elizabeth Cady Stanton similarly describes the creation and equality of all, but deliberately includes women when composing the Declaration of Sentiments. By adding one word, Stanton changes the audience from one man, the King of Great Britain, to all the men of the country in order to resolve any conflicts that people have created. The focus is on declaring the fairness every individual deserves as well as all that they are justly given. In both documents, the claims are made clear that each person is bestowed inalienable rights which are “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”.
