Over 1.1 million. That is the number of people who boldly left for war but never came home in all the wars of American history. But this figure does not put a dent in the number of total lives affected. It is impossible to count the wounded, broken families, and post traumatic stress victims that also gave greatly in the effort of protecting this nation and all that it stands for. The selfless love and devotion demonstrated all through our past shaped America into the nation we all enjoy today. Too often, it is so great that we end up taking our freedoms for granted. So instead of letting our words do the thanking, let us express our gratitude by taking up the torch that was lit by the heroes of our past. Let our devotion to our country follow in their footsteps. If we do not stand, who will? America remains the home of the free only so long as it also remains the home of the brave. Every yesterday determines every tomorrow, and it is time for us to rise up just as the courageous men and women did that preceded us. Our future and our children’s future depends totally on how we choose to live today, so may we live it fully devoted to our country and willing to stand against anything that threatens it. May each of us choose to be diligent in teaching our future generations and modeling for our peers the value of the flag and all that it represents. My prayer is that God continues to bless and protect the United States of America with men and women willing to unite in the common goal of maintaining our freedoms and
