I’ve read some interesting attacks about liberals but “Think liberals are more compassionate? Better Get Your Facts Straight” by Thomas Sowell has to take the cake. His entire argument is based off of vague statistics and a weak stance that because on average liberals seem to volunteer less they somehow are not allowed to hold their political views. Your donation has to be this tall to be a liberal. The attack feels like that of someone who has no more stones and now must throw anything at the other side.
Sowell sets the tone immediately by spelling out the falsehood that has been created by years and years of misinformation. That “liberals [are] compassionate and conservatives [are] less caring. It is liberals who advocate "forgiveness" of loans to Third World countries, a "living wage" for the poor and a "safety net" for all.” Putting forgiveness, living wage, and safety net in quotation already make the reader infer that Sowell is mocking these terms. As if wanting a more peaceful and accepting world could be humorous.
