When the endocrine system is out of balance, it affects an individual in predictable ways. In the condition called Hyperthyroidism, it is when the thyroid glands are producing excessive amount of hormones. Those two hormones are Tetraiodothyronine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3). These are the hormones that control how our cells use energy.
Thyroid gland is the one that regulates our metabolism when these hormones are released. It is the primary organ that affected by hyperthyroidism. It is a butterfly shaped organ on the throat. The role of this gland is very important in controlling metabolism. This gland also producing Calcitonin. There are specific types of hyperthyroidism such as Graves’ disease, thyroid tumor and abnormal thyroid stimulation.
Causes
There are wide varieties of conditions that cause hyperthyroidism, but the most common cause of hyperthyroidism is Grave’s disease, an autoimmune disorder. It is mainly seen in females and is most common after childbirth or during menopause, and is found to be hereditary.
Another caused of hyperthyroidism is benign tumor of thyroid or pituitary gland, As well as inflammation of the thyroid also known as Thyroiditis.
