Braun, at the time he worked as a lawyer and throughout his story he realizes the error in his ways. It all begins with Braun’s son, his black best friend Bobby, and a joy ride in a Mercedes that later, turns into a hate crime. Braun, at the time wanted no part in the controversy surrounding hate crimes, saying “no way am I gonna get involved in the Rodney King case, cause I regarded it as a racial beating”. But the night of the joy ride, his son gave him a reason to get involved, with these word, “I know why you stopped us because Bobby’s Black”. Braun’s son’s sudden outburst to the cop, stuck a cord, in Braun when he was notified of what the officer said back. Like any parents reaction when their kid puts their own life in danger, he got angry. When, he realizes that the very thing that he was trying to ignore and brush off, is actually a serious issue that no only affects people of color but him and his family too. Braun soon realized that, his son’s outburst taught him a lesson that he never learned growing up, that if your to fight for justice it shouldn’t be just for your own
