Title IX

Until 1972, women weren’t able to compete in sports, but then a law was passed allowing women to compete in competitive sports. Title IX has had many effects on women and men in sports. Even after forty-four years, women are still being treated unequally. Men are still getting better opportunities when its comes to sports in today's world. This is one of the many problems that women face everyday. Women are never going to be completely equal to men unless women start taking a stand. A woman who was the director of the Office for Civil Rights once said “I asked to meet with the woman athletic director, but I wasn't allowed. Only in the quiet stalls of the women's bathroom could she tell me the truth: While the male athletes were treated like kings, women's athletics at the university were barely existent” (Brown). Today, women are still facing inequality in sports programs. While male athletes are being treated like kings, women are being treated like peasants. The women's team has won three world cups and the men’s team hasn’t won one world cup, but the women’s team is still paid less than the men’s team. The United States women's soccer team makes $99,000 per year, while the men's team makes $263,320 per year. One of the …show more content…
Many men feel they are the ones that are being treated unequally when it comes to sports. They state because of the Title IX law that they are the ones facing budget cuts in sports programs. Although there isn’t any solid information of this they still think they are the ones being treated unequally. If they are the ones being treated unequally then why are men in professional sports getting paid way more money than women? Men’s athletics are constantly being played on television, but they hardly ever play women’s sports on television. Many people state that men’s sports are more competitive and more entertaining to watch. Even in sport’s women are put down because they aren’t fast enough or interesting to watch. Men in competitive sports are not the victim in this situation. They are offered more scholarship money and paid more in professional sports. They are offered way more opportunities than women. Men can sit and act as though they are the victims of this problem, but we all know who the real victim
