How do To Kill a Mockingbird and Twelve Angry Men demonstrate that prejudice can effectively prevent the pursuit of justice?

In the two texts Harper Lee’s novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” and Reginald Rose’s play “Twelve Angry Men”, both portray how racism, peer pressure, and prejudice can easily change the views and beliefs of others. In the texts, the authors show how the jury are prejudice, the way white people treat coloured people, and how both the protagonists in the two text are not affected by racial prejudice. Both authors show how prejudice can easily change the way people view justice.

Atticus Finch and the 8th juror Mr. Davis. The texts had so many people who hated or were scared of people who were from a slum or who are African-Americans. In ‘To Kill a Mockingbird,’ Atticus had gained respect from the Cunninghams. Atticus knows that the Cunninghams don’t change their mind that quick, so he thought that he had a chance, he also thought he had a chance because of how long it took to make a decision. However, at the end Tom was still found guilty. This occurred because the whole jury was racist, and they all dominated. Whereas, in ‘Twelve Angry Men’ the jury hated people from slums, except two people. Usually if more people start vote on something they would dominate and change the others views. Lucky enough, the 8th juror was able to change all the others perspective about the kid.

In the two text, “To Kill a Mockingbird” shows how the African-American’s are badly treated, and in “Twelve Angry Men” thus play shows how even the jury can be prejudice, and finally in both text it shows how the protagonists are not effected by prejudice.
