Courage: The quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, or pain. Well, this may be the dictionary definition, but a dictionary cannot describe our feelings. Things like our Social Courage, Physical Courage, and Moral Courage. Let's see how it relates to everyone’s favourite book, (if you don't like it, at least you read it) To Kill A Mockingbird.

Social Courage is the risk of being excluded in social situations. You go against what is popular. I say a good example of Social Courage are Scout and Mayella. It’s almost obvious why we say Scout. It’s because she’s simply not born to be a lady, and shows it. It’s the reason why Aunt Alexandra came in the first place. Scout is definitely a tomboy, and there’s no doubt about that, but she’s also not afraid to do anything anyone asks of her, from acting like a lady in front of adult friends, to dressing as a pig for another friend. Now, Mayella on the other hand, showed Social Courage because she did what was basically against the laws. She kissed a black man, which is not normal to do. She even went to court because of it. I say that dangerous, but courageous to try.

I say a good example of Physical Courage are Mrs. Dubose and Jem. I say Mrs. Dubose displays Physical Courage since she stops taking her medicine, knowing it will leave an effect on her body. Jem displays Physical Courage, because in the end of the novel, Jem saves himself and Scout without caring about what happened to him. Because of this, he ended up breaking his
