Scout asks Atticus why women are not on jury’s. Atticus’s response implies that women cannot handle what happens in court. Scout believes women are just as capable as men and can accomplish anything they set their mind to. Scout is not the typical girl in Maycomb, she is an example that not all girls are fragile. Scout is getting used to being neglected by Jem, but then her new fiance neglects her! Scout is just a little girl with no understanding of why women do not have equal rights. “He had asked me earlier in the summer to marry him, then he promptly forgot about it”(Lee 55). Dill, Scout's fiance, left her to hang out with her older brother. Jem’s, opinion is that Scout is too “girly”. Scout decides to smack Dill around just to remind him of her presence.
