Tom Sawyer starts out with of course introducing us to Tom Sawyer. It paints the picture of Tom as a mischievous boy. The first thing Tom does in the book is he get’s in trouble for fighting and ripping his shirt, his punishment is to paint the fence. Of course Tom doesn’t want to do that so he bribes other kids to do it for him, a genius plan if I may say so myself.
Tom goes out to the graveyard with his friend Huckleberry Finn to rid themselves of warts but they end up witnessing a murder at the hands of Injun Joe! Tom and Huck swear never to tell a soul. After they promise they quickly feel guilty for the wrong man is accused(Muff Potter).
Tom find this girl named Becky Thatcher and impresses her to the level of where he may take her hand in courtship. He quickly gets engaged to her(but it was more of a child one not real) but she soon find out he had previously been engaged and they have a falling out. In the aftermath of this Tom loses all giddiness from his life.
