Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
“Here rests in honor glory an American soldier known only to God,” is what is engraved on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is dedicated to the men and women who have died in the service without being identified. Many Americans take freedom for granted. We don’t understand the grueling amount of training and effort an American soldier goes through. Why should I lay the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier? I would show respect to the men and women who have died for us. I would represent West Jay and Jay County well. Also, having family in the service, it would be even more of an honor. Laying the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a wonderful privilege, but for me, it would be an extraordinary privilege.
What does freedom mean to me? Freedom is the ability to not be scared when you leave your house, the ability to believe what you want to believe. Freedom would not be in America today if men and women wouldn’t have fought for us to keep us safe. We don’t have to go to bed scared and wake up frightened because of the price these men and women have paid. They are willing to risk their lives to protect our freedoms. Many citizens don’t appreciate the service men and women like they should.

The guards are very dedicated to keeping the Tomb safe. Have you heard of twenty one? It is the highest military honor that you can receive. It’s also what the guards perform during the ceremony.
