In the novel, Tomorrow When The War Began, by John Marsden is about eight teenagers who confronted a situation that is out of their security are trying to save their families. Fi, Homer, and Ellie are few of characters that showed braveness in the novel. Courage is of the main and a very essential theme in the novel to the fact that each of the characters discovered their courage that they thought they never had. Also, courage is important in the book because it’s something that influences and affects us some times in our lives when we are in a catastrophic situation. We never don’t know what the result or the outcomes will be for us.

We learned that Fi is one of the person in the group who doesn’t have valor and is a girly, wealthy, and graceful person. However in the novel she showed her bravery when she is in a disastrous situation and how she is able to find courage to overcome it. An example is when she helps plan to blow up the bridge of Heron. Ellie is very scared for her in the fact that Fi isn’t the type of girl who do dangerous stuff. But in the novel Fi develops and create something that no one thought of or knew about. She showed the group how courageous she was when they blew up the bridge that no other girls like her can do. She’s not just an ordinary girl anymore, she turned out to be more confident and brave throughout the story. Fi also discovered that she must be strong and not back away or give up to everything that had happened despite the fact that it’s very risky and scary. It’s the true courage. “I guess the courage is when you’re really scared but you still do it” (256). This means that courage is somewhere inside you, you just got to let it out because courage comes from anyone, regardless of who you are.

In conclusion the themes of courage in the Tomorrow When The War Began is very important because it’s one the main theme in the novel. We see it in the characters development; Fi, Homer, Ellie, and the others, who were forced to respond to the disastrous events that happened to Wirrawee and how
