The initiator in the story Tonawanda Woman Strikes back was a woman named Mary Moore. Mary Moore believes that many people of the community are suffering from toxic air pollution. This toxic air pollution is coming from a large industrial area off the I90. She believes that the air is polluted and it contains cancerous chemicals. Mary Moore is going to tell her story to the state capital. She has proof of documents from the Department of Environmental Conservations. There was a list that showing that the air was contain with Benzene and Fermeldahyde. These two chemicals are forms of cancer. Mary Moore is hoping that the results from The Department of Environmental conservation will help prove that this is the reason why some of the residents of the community are getting cancer. The supporters spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on senate democratic contests. These contests were supposed to help win against the republicans. The gay community is also trying to convince the religious groups. Religious groups don’t believe in same sex marriage. The bill was eventually signed into the law by Paterson.
Both of these initiator was trying to get some sort of law passed by the government. In my opinion lady from Tonawada is trying to save her community. She feels as if the industrial area is spreading cancerous pollution in the air. It seems like she wants the government to figure out a way to control the situation. The gay community are trying to convince the government that there should be a statute on same sex marriage. The senate keeps on rejecting the gay marriage bill, it is considered to be unconstitutional. Patterson
