Task 3 – Motivation
People do not only go to work to earn money. Use one of the theories described in the lecture to briefly analyse what else they may gain from work. It may help for you to consider what motivates you to work hard.
People do not only go to work to earn money. I feel that there are other reasons why people go to work. By using Alderfer’s ERG model, I will be explaining some of the reasons why people go to work. Alderfer’s theory is a based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, but Alderfer has altered the needs into three core needs of existence, relatedness and growth.
It can be true that people go to work to earn money however not everyone has the same motives. People are different and they all have variety of reasons to go to work. Money may be an important factor but there are others facts that need to be taken into account.

Using Alderfer’s model, one need is relatedness as people need to have a relationship to the social environment. People need to be around each other because we are social creatures. Daria (2013). For example, some people may go to work to improve their skills. This may happen through interacting with other people or they want to improve on their self-confidence. By working day to day around people, it can make you more confident towards others as you gain skills in how to communicate effectively and this overall provides better self-confidence when talking to others as they will find it easier communicate verbally. For me personally, I think that this is one factor other than money which motivates me to work hard. By going to work, I know that I will develop professional relationships which may help me out in the future, such as developing key contacts which may be beneficial in the long term. Also by interacting with many different people every day, it has made me more confident as person and developed my speaking and listening skills.
Another reason why people go to work is to develop their skills and progress as a person. Using Alderfer’s theory, another need is growth which shows the need for personal growth and development. By going to work, you develop important skills such as speaking and listening skills, along with progressing as a person. In my situation, I think knowing that I can progress at work in terms of a promotion or even improving my skills, motivates me to get up in the morning and go to work.
In conclusion, even though money is a factor of why people go to work, it is not the only one. In my opinion, people also work because they need a social environment and the need for personal growth and development.

Task 2 – The Big Five
The 5-factor or “Big Five” model of personality has become the dominant approach to the study of personality. Think about the model – what do you think you are like? For each factor say in general whether you are low, high or “somewhere in the middle. Give reasons for and examples to illustrate your personal assessment.

I prefer things to be simple and straight forward. I like to follow a routine and do things independently. But I am willing to try new things such as new sports or trying different types of foods.
Conscientiousness

I think I am disciplined. I can control myself and I like being prepared for everything that I do. However sometimes I can be lazy by leaving stuff lying around. For example my room is messy but it’s like that for a reason. Others may think it’s messy but this way I know where everything is. I
