Everyday, people are more than likely to eat some sort of sweets with their meals or snacks, and although sweets and pastries typically have a bad reputation, they actually have benefits to eating them as well. While the effects of sugar on your body depend on the amount you intake, sweets and pastries consumed in moderation are good for your body while too much of sweets and pastries will take a toll on the health of your body. In moderation, sweets and pastries have many fantastic effects on your body. For example, using a small amount of sweets to make healthier food taste better can help encourage you to eat more of those healthy foods. Tosi in the documentary explained that her parents expected her to follow in their footsteps and become a successful entrepreneur or other skillful occupation that takes a college education. Tosi then disregarded her parents wishes and followed her own dreams. The argument is prevailed through many techniques in the film, specifically pathos, ethos, and logos. Pathos appeals to the emotions of the target audience, and the film uses it by portraying Tosi’s feelings through interview to help the audience first-hand hear from her what she felt during the times of struggle and the times of success. Next, ethos appeals to the credibility and trust of the audience. The documentary used ethos by showing the culture she lives in, allowing the audience to see what she goes through, and show that what she is saying is not something just made up. The film also shows what food she creates and bakes in order to show the authenticity and success of the food she is making. Lastly, logos, the appeal to the audience's trust and consistency of the argument that is portrayed, and the film appeals to it by showing the reasoning that Tosi had with her parents in order to prove herself and her career to them, and that she can make it in life on her own through it. After learning that you have to follow your own dreams and ambitions instead of the ones of those around you, the only way to truly accomplish those dreams is to persevere through the hardships you will encounter, because nothing will ever be handed to you, and there will be trials when you try and reach your destination. In the film, each one of the pastries that she created tells its own story of how she got to where she is today. For example, her crack pie was created when she was craving to bake something on a Sunday afternoon, but she was out of some of her essential ingredients for baking, so, in order to create a sweet dish to serve, she collected all the different ingredients in her kitchen that she could throw together into a bowl to create a dessert of some sort. After not measuring any of her ingredients, and baking the pie, she ended up creating a dessert that was loved by her and everyone around her. While she only overcame a small obstacle in this example, looking together at all of the dishes she created helps to understand that in life, you will encounter obstacles of different levels, which goes to show the importance of perseverance. If you never persevere through the hard times, it will be impossible to make it to the other side to the good times, the times that will be memorable and help you define who you are as a person.
