Touching Spirit Bear Essay Buddha once said “ You’ll not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.” Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen is about a juvenile delinquent who finds himself in trouble very often. But Circle justice, a justice that believes in healing rather than punishing, helps Cole, the juvenile delinquent, find the real himself through the process of healing oneself. In addition, he also helps other people whom he had bullied, or got bullied by in the past heal with him. He learns the truth that the world held that is to be deciphered by all of us. For example “ Still, no one ratted on Cole Matthews without paying the price. That day, he caught up to Peter in the hallway at school. “You’re a dead man,” he warned the skinny red-haired boy, giving him a hard shove.”(7) This shows that Cole would do things that would land him in trouble later on, like beating people up. This is because Cole thinks that everyone is against him and nobody likes him, which is mainly a misconception. Differing from the beginning Cole now is different, a great example would be this short excerpt from the book “ ‘I know that saying I’m sorry about my attitude isn’t enough, but I want you to know that I am sorry.’ He paused. ‘When I was carrying the rock this morning, I realized that I won’t ever get over my anger unless I quit blaming others for everything.’”(200) This shows that Cole has begun to realize that he ha to stop blaming others to be happy. This is because Cole has realized that self-realization will lead him to the path of a happy life. In conclusion, Cole realized the importance of change, and decided to imply it in his
