When punishing a youth criminal, their background should be taken into account: Strongly agree. I think that when a youth criminal, even an adult sometimes, is charged for crime, their background should be checked over, for certain information that may tip the scales either way. It is also a fairer way to judge because if a person's background is not checked, then . I think that this is because if a criminal was raised with abuse or crime, they might think that it’s ok for crime to happen, therefore they don’t know right from wrong, making the crime, partly not the criminals fault. He should not be here. It was not his choice to lie dying on a remote island, alone unable to move. This place held him prisoner more securely than any jail. Here, he was powerless. He could not keep warm or find food. His place was wearing dry clothes in a safe room, sleeping and eating without a care in the world. His place was having other people worry about him. His place was being in control. That was his place.” This quote is an excellent example of how Cole is not yet fully changed, blaming his faults on others. It shows how Cole is still a frivolous jerk, who does not see his own faults. This paragraph is also an example of foreshadowing, playing on the idea of choice. Cole, at this moment, thinks that his actions are the results of others choices, and that he has no choice, only being a result of others actions. This is then reversed as Cole understands the importance of choice, and that all actions, including his own, area result of a choice. He also realises that a choice requires more than one option, as he lay dying, and made the choice to live, making Cole a round
