Toyota Camry Ad Analysis

I reviewed a TV commercial that was first aired during the 2015 Superbowl. This ad was to promote the new Toyota Camry. The ad begins with a man driving a car and sitting in the passenger seat is a girl, approximately 18-20 years old, who appears to be his daughter. While the man is driving the daughter peers out the passenger window and her eyes appear to swell up with tears. The two of them do not talk, however the commercial is narrated by the father who discusses what it means to be a dad. While they are driving down the road in a maroon Camry, flashbacks of the father and daughter over the years are sandwiched throughout their drive. The father reflects upon what it means to be a father. He shares thoughts about the happy times of being a dad as well as the difficult times that come with being a …show more content…
He implies that he has taught his daughter right from wrong and has been a positive influence in her life therefore she feels assured she can count on him for support. Near the end of the commercial, the girl wipes her teary eyes and smiles at her dad. They then pull up to an airport terminal where she gets out of the car and walks towards, and joins, a group of soldiers that are all walking into the airport. With her military backpack on, she turns to gesture a goodbye to her father who is sitting in the car watching her. As they exchange a smile his eyes swell up with tears. At the beginning of the commercial the narrator states that being a father is more than being a dad, it’s a choice. The word “choice” is used throughout the commercial. The final line in the commercial also references a choice when the narrator states that one day a wonderful human being (referring to his daughter) will make their own bold choice someday. The last scene in the commercial is the car leaving the airport and titled The Bold New
