Facts: The victim and requester, Tracey Thurman, made numerous reports to the police for the beatings her son and herself suffered by her husband. When Charles Thurman was finally arrested he was only sentenced to 14 years of prison and released before on probation. Officers were to pay Tracey $2.3 million because they violated her civil rights to equal protection.
Tracey’s rights were violated when she wasn’t protected against her husband. Tracey’s husband was so assured that the police was not going to do anything about his threats and aggressions towards her that one day he assaulted her in front of officers. He went as far as making death threats and kicked in her windshield without any consequences.
