Did you know, that according to Jennifer G. Hickey’s article “Only 46 Percent of US Families Are ‘Traditional’”, she states, “The Pew Research Center reports that today less than half of American children under the age of 18 live in a home with two married parents?” Many can agree and including Hickey that having a traditional family can be vital to the development of a person. However, growing up without a healthy family structure can leave most children struggling. Hickey states:

Luke Rosiak author of an article “Fathers disappear from households across America”, talks about the percentage of children without a father in the three major races in America. For example, among blacks, 54 percent live with only their mother. Twelve percent of black families below the poverty line have two parents present, compared to the 41 percent of impoverished Hispanic families and 32 percent of poor white families (Rosiak). Living without a father can be miserable and cause distress too. To live without a father is like taking out an important role model for a young boy. For instance, a young boy looks up to his father to show him how to be a man, a provider, and when he is older a father himself. Statistics show that, children in father-absent homes can be four times more likely to be poor as shown in the graph below. Living without a father can affect a young girl also. Now you may think that the biggest affect this will have on a girl is the search for approval from men. On the other hand, it’s not the biggest issue. In fact, living without a male figure in the household can increase the chances of a girl getting pregnant in her teens. Also without a father in the house affect a young woman on knowing how a real man should treat her. As well as the feeling of what it should be like when a man cares about her. Without love in your family it feels like a group of strangers in the house. Fights will break out due to hatred for one another. The presence of love in the family gives you a feeling of security in life. For instance, when you come from a family that surround you with love it gives you a sense of security; so if something happens you know your family is there to comfort and support you. If that support is absent you feel like you are alone and you can’t handle the situation. Without this support it can have emotional chains that bind you, for example, you can’t communicate or express yourself, you keep everything bottled up inside
