The Roman Empire was one of the largest and greatest empires in human history, an empire known for its literature, music, art, and probably one of greatest military’s. They took great pride in their military and showed it throughout their artwork, portraits, and sculptures, about great military stands and legendary military hero’s. The Dacian wars that the Romans fought in 101-102 and 105-106, produced one of the most memorable pieces of architectural artwork known as Trajan’s column. This column pays remembrance to the Dacian war by showing every moment of the two wars, including what the armies from both sides had to go through. This landmark has stood in Roman capital since 113 C.E. and has shown to be one of the most monumental pieces of artwork, not only in the Roman Empire’s history, but in human history.
Trajan’s victory column is one of the most prominent landmarks in Italy’s capital city to survive the fall of Rome. It has the height of 126 ft and contains 155 scenes of Trajan’s conquest over the Dacians, which starts off at the bottom with the scenes of preparation and departure, from there on upwards it tells the stories from both sides of the war with explaining how they marched, battled, negotiated, sailed, pleaded, and more. The column was originally placed in between two libraries and was able to be viewed from all of its vantage points, but today the column sits in isolation.
