Finding Forrester was a movie that caught the attention of the world by showing how life can change if a person transforms into a best version they can be. The movie is about a African American high schooler named Jamal Wallace. He notices a person in the window of an apartment building, he then goes into that apartment and is caught so he runs away leaving his backpack in the process. He later finds the backpack after it is dropped from the window of the building. He then goes back to apologize to the man for trespassing in his apartment. Later, he met him and found out that he was a famous author named William Forrester. With the help of Forrester, the writing ability of Jamal is shown and becomes a better writer. To transform as a person, they need to find themself as a character, find uncomfortable settings that will change them, and as a person, encounter conflicts that they need to push through. Transformation can make your dreams inevitable. To stay in school, Jamal has to better his grades because Crawford thought he is only at the school to play basketball. Jamal has to make himself a better student by getting help from William which transforms his life and his dreams of playing basketball. Movie Locity (2001) states, “Compelled to look past skin color and suppositions, Jamal encounters not only his first fan, but a mentor who will challenge and change him forever, and Forrester had his first reason in years to emerge from his self-imposed solitude” (P.1). After Jamal turned in a paper, Crawford said that he must have plagiarised because the paper was to good so he thought Jamal must have had help for the paper or it was another person’s writings. Crawford couldn’t accept the fact that Jamal transformed into a great writer and a better person after leaving his old school. “Frustrated, Jamal turns to Forrester for help with confusing turns his life has taken. After all, Forrester had been one of the few people to take the time to look at his work and consider his writing seriously” (Clinton, 2001, P.1). Mostly, this was caused by the rumors of William and Jamal being dared to have to go into William’s apartment, he then left his bag, coming back to Will asking questions about his writing. This shows that they needed to transform to change each other and needed that moment when he missed the free throws to happen to get William out of the apartment building. This is what transformed them to be the best person they could be for one another. Jamal missed two free throws at the state championship game after being told if they win they’d take off his plagiarism and after he made 50 in a row at practice.
