And I never found Golden Valley.” The quote supports the claim of roads causing a lost connection with nature. According to www.artba.org, “Currently the U.S has 4.12 million center-line miles of roads, providing 8.66 lane-miles for highway travel…” The quote supports the claim because people are using all of the roads to travel, but are not experiencing the nature around them. The argument against the claim states because of roads people can get to natural attractions more quickly than without roads. According to Google Maps it takes 31 hours to get to Yosemite National Park from Shelbyville, IN by car, and 684 hours by walking. Roads push nature away, and traveling so quickly causes people to miss the nature around them.
The loss of nature plagues America today like it did in John Steinbeck’s Travels with Charley. The use and time spent on technology causes a lost connection with nature. The construction of roads also causes the loss of nature. Having a connection with nature can benefit Americans by making the natural world easier to
