Midterm Essay A synopsis of the Trayvon Martin story and case. George Zimmerman, was on neighborhood watch in Florida. He reportedly called 911 to report a suspicious person in his neighborhood. The police officer told him not to get out of his car or talk to the suspect. He did so anyways and seconds after he got out of his SUV the neighborhood reported hearing gun shoots. Zimmerman reported that he shot Trayvon, says he did so out of self defense. Zimmerman was found with a bloody nose and blood on the back of his head this was reported by the first officer on the scene Timothy Smith. March 12th, 2012 the Sanford Chief Bill Lee reported that Zimmerman would not be charged because there was no evidence to prove his story of the event. He thought Zimmerman’s head injuries were life-threatening. This case was then turned over to the Florida State Attorney Norm Wolfinger. The FBI got involved after authorities released the 911 call of Trayvon Martin screaming Help Help! seconds before the shoots were fired. March 19th is when the FBI launched an investigation on this case. This is when social media got involved. Sanford police Chief Bill Lee on March 22, 2012 announced he was going to be leaving as head of the department, which has raised suspicious for the handling of the shooting of Trayvon martin. President Obama spoke out for the first time publicly about the increasingly controversy of the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin.
