Treasure Mountain by Louis L'Amore showed many different aspects of writing. Mr. L'Amore put very descriptive elements into his story. The characters were well written, and the details in the setting made it feel as if you were there. The story kept you hooked with a great deal of action and mystery. Treasure Mountain contained deeply vivid characters and an exceedingly detailed setting.
Orrin Sackett is a smooth talking charmer who can get his way out of any situation. He is described as friendly, easy to notice and remember, and a ladies man. His brother, Tell, said "He was a downright friendly man" (12). Orrin travels a lot and knows his way around a city and can find his way no matter where he is. He is very strong, and is able to fight very well. Because of his ability to talk smoothly and come off as a nice person, he can stay out of trouble. Orrin's brother, Tell, is alike in many ways but his behavior is very different.

He prefers to be alone, and will go years without seeing a family member. He is a well rounded fighter and has a very good shot. Tell cares for his family more than anything, as he would never let anyone hurt a Sackett. He also never leaves without his rifle or his saddle. Tell is very smart and is prepared for anything that comes his way. An example of this is when he goes to check on Orrin, who has been missing for several days. He goes the hotel where he was staying and sees that Orrin has left his gun, which is something that is very uncommon for a Sackett. He investigates and eventually discovers his brothers location.
