Tricksters are very controversial characters due to their social inappropriate words and behaviors. They play very important roles in the historical mythology. In multiple cultures, tricksters vary in many forms, such as cats and foxes. They often act in a funny way and leave deep thoughts in people. The characteristics and behaviors of tricksters are questionable because their influences towards human beings can be either positive or negative. However, tricksters are valuable parts of the mythological literature.
The most basic benefit of Trickster stories is that it can entertain people. Their interesting behaviors and naïve thoughts cause people to laugh. However, people have ignored the fact that the rules don’t apply to tricksters. Their main feature is that they have the courage to break the social rules. Radin wrote many interesting stories that can reveal this unique quality. For example, Trickster dressed as a woman and cheated on Chief’s son in order to get food for his friends and himself (Radin 23). The deceiving behavior is not acceptable. However, Trickster cheated because he does not want to starve to death. His nature can be liked or disliked by other people. His response towards his situation was affected by the social surrounding. It is obvious that Trickster cannot maintain its original settings because his personality will change with the change of surroundings. It does not matter if Trickster successfully fooled other people in an unbelievable way. Trickster’s main purpose is to guarantee himself to survive in the society.
