The Holocaust was a horrible tragedy that happened in the 1900s. It was a war between the Nazis and the Jews that lived in Germany. A lot of Jews were killed. Trude Silman is one of the many survivors of the Holocaust. The Nuremberg Laws was one of the events that lead up to the Holocaust. German Jews were no longer citizens of Germany. Who ever was Jewish,part jewish or Aryan was no longer a citizen either. Another event leading up to the Holocaust was the Kristallnacht. That night seven thousand five hundred shops were looted, one hundred and nineteen Synagogues were set on fire, twenty thousand Jews were arrested,and there were thirty six deaths. After that about one thousand Jews were slain. Seventy thousand two hundred and seventy three people were gassed to death. Hitler lead and organization and there codename was Aktion T4.(“ The Final Solution” pgs 38,49,and 49) Trude Silman grew up in a town called Bratislava. Growing up Trude a large extended family. Trude said that when growing up they did usual family stuff and family games. When she was 6 she got to attend a Jewish school. She had a brother that was seven years older than her. Trude,Trudes sister,and her Aunt left for England on March 28, in 1939.. They had to take a Taxi, 2 trains, and a boat. They got stopped by officials many times on their way to England.When they got to England it was hard for trude to learn how to speak English. She didn’t know how to speak it yet. In the house in England Trude and her Sister grew up with two dogs. She has never lived with dogs before so it scared her a little bit. She said the houses looked completely alien like to her.
