Trust is an important theme throughout Pieces of Georgia, by Jen Bryant, and The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho. Trust means two different things in these books.In Pieces of Georgia, the characters have to trust each other. In The Alchemist, Santiago has to trust only the omens that he could read with the few tools he has. These two themes of trust can help a person learn to rely on either themselves only or the occasional friend In Pieces of Georgia, Georgia must learn to trust others to get over the problems of her life. Georgia and her dad have to trust that they can stick together and make it through the tough times. Georgia trusts that her dad will be able to provide for her and her dad trusts himself that he will get over his wife passing. Georgia’s dad ends up purchasing a membership to the Brandywine Museum of Art, even though art reminds him of his wife. Similarly, Georgia must trust her friend, Tiffany, that she will stay loyal and friendly to Georgia even though Tiffany is better off in terms of money and family.
